City Plans Arbor Day Ceremony at Langdon Park on April 26, 2024
April 23, 2024For over twenty years, the Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Portsmouth with its Tree City USA Award. For the past five years, the Foundation has also awarded its Tree Growth Award to the City’s Department of Public Works urban forestry crew. City Arborist Supervisor Max Wiater with the City’s Parks and Greenery Division, led by Parks and Greeneries Foreman, Corin Hallowell and the Trees & Public Greenery Committee, have helped Portsmouth achieve this distinction and plan to honor the outgoing Trees & Greenery Committee Co-Chair with this year’s Arbor Day commemorations.

April 23, 2024Prince Whipple, a young native of Africa, was transported during the Atlantic slave trade to America, and detained in slavery by William Whipple, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. In 1779, Prince Whipple, together with 19 other enslaved Africans, submitted a Petition for Freedom to the New Hampshire state legislature.
Planner Society Presents: Crafting Mail Art with the Traveling Postal Club, Wednesday May 15
April 23, 2024Molly Meng, artist and founder of the Traveling Postal Club, will lead a workshop on creating Mail Art. We will learn how to craft lovely postcards while Molly shares ways to create connections through letter writing. Supply packets will be available to pick up at the library about a week before the event.
