**IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ**

Due to concern for the health and well-being of the public and city employees in relation to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), City Hall will be closed from Tuesday, March 17, 2020 until May 31, 2020.   

Please note that you can pay your city bills online at https://www.cityofportsmouth.com/city/pay-my-bill.  As this is an ever-changing situation, please check the city website for possible updates.  E-mails and phone messages will be checked periodically throughout this time.

** The Tax Office will be re-opening on Monday, June 1st for walk ins **

When City Hall opens it will be limited to 50% occupancy.  Walk-ins will be greeted at the front door, with new protocols in place, which include:

* Visitors will be required to wear a cloth mask while in City Hall

* Masks will be provided if the visitor does not bring one.

* If the department the visitor wants to visit is at capacity, that person will be asked to wait in a physical-distancing queue in the Portsmouth Room, adjacent to City Council Chambers.

 

** If you are coming into City Hall for a Motor Vehicle Transaction please review the list below and be sure you have all the items you need before arriving**

New Plates 

1. Application for title from the NH dealer. If purchased out of state or in a private sale, the original title for vehicles model year 2000 or newer. 

2. Your Driver's License.

3. Proof of residency if never registered before in the City of Portsmouth (utility bill, pay stub within 30 days, envelope with forwarded address). 

 

Transfer Plates 

1. Application for title from the NH dealer. If purchased out of state or in a private sale, the original title for vehicles model year 2000 or newer. 

2. Your Driver's License.

3. Proof of residency if never registered before in the City of Portsmouth (utility bill, pay stub within 30 days, envelope with forwarded address). 

4. You MUST have original registration from the previous vehicle. 

 

For Vehicles Dated 1999 and Older. . .  

Customer would need bill of sale and a copy of the title or NH registration. If these are not available then you will need a VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION FORM (TDMV 19A) - this can be downloaded from the DMV website.  This form must be filled out by a NH State Inspection Station or a Police Officer.
