Master Prints and Master Printers 2019

Master Prints & Master Printers
from the studios of Don Gorvett and Robert Townsend

August 19 – October 13
Portsmouth Public Library
Reception:
Thursday September 19 | 6:30 – 8:30 PM

Don Gorvett has been a resident of the Seacoast area since 1990. Don’s large color woodcuts are in the permanent collections of many museums, including Currier Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and The Peabody Essex Museum. Much of Don’s work revolves around the waterfronts of Portsmouth and beyond. He opened his first gallery, Piscataqua Fine Arts, in Portsmouth in 2000.

Master printer Robert Townsend of R.E. Townsend Studio of Georgetown, MA. has spent decades collaborating with artists and exploring a wide variety of printing techniques. His early career was spent at Impressions Workshop in Boston. He has been a visiting instructor at the Fine Arts Works Center in Provincetown, Graphics Studio at the University of South Florida, Carpenter Center at Harvard University and more.

Also in the show are Alex Katz, Jim Dine, Peter Milton, Aaron Fink, Sidney Hurwitz, Yvonne Jacquette, Karen Whitman, Alex deConstant, and Sean Hurley. The exhibition will illustrate the span and breadth of contemporary printmaking at its best.
