Frequently Asked Questions
How many checkouts per month do I get?
Portsmouth Public Library cardholders get 8 checkouts per month, everything from episodes of your favorite show to the newest best-sellers.
Do I need to return the titles I check out? Are there late fees?
No and no! The titles you check out will be automatically returned at the end of the lending period, eliminating any worry about fines. You can return titles early to keep yourself organized, however this will not allow you to check out more titles before the monthly limit is reset.
When do my checkouts expire? When does my monthly checkout limit reset?
Your checkouts expire at 7PM EST on the day they are “due.” Your monthly checkout limit resets at 12:01AM on the first day of the new month.
Do I have to wait for the best titles to be available?
No! Titles on hoopla are always available.
Do I need to download anything to read, watch or listen to my borrowed titles?
On your phone or tablet, all you need is the hoopla app for iOS or Android. On your computer, if you are using the Firefox browser, Widevine is required for audio and video playback. If you are using Safari, Microsoft Silverlight is required for video playback. Don't worry - your browser should prompt you to install or enable the correct plug-in the first time you watch a movie or show.
