DPW Hosts Public Meeting Feb 15 on Woodbury Ave. Traffic Calming Project

February 2, 2023

The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works is holding a public meeting on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 to present and gather feedback on proposed traffic calming measures on Woodbury Avenue. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm at New Franklin School (1 Franklin Drive, Portsmouth).

Residents in the Woodbury Avenue neighborhood have requested traffic calming measures for the residential section of Woodbury Avenue between Market Street and Bartlett Street. City staff will be presenting conceptual plans for constructing several median islands on Woodbury Avenue between Echo Avenue and Dennett Street to alter Woodbury Avenue’s current straight alignment, provide pedestrian crossing refuge areas and to slow vehicle speeds.

The City of Portsmouth prioritizes convenient, safe and accessible streets and roadways for all transportation users. As traffic safety issues arise, the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program provides a mechanism for neighborhood groups to work with the City. It is intended to ensure that all neighborhood stakeholders are provided the opportunity to be involved.

The Woodbury Avenue traffic calming measures are also included in the agenda for the Parking and Traffic Safety Committee Meeting on February 2, 2023.
