Peirce Island Sewer Force Mains Project

WWTF Sewer Force Mains Project map

There are two sewer force mains that run from the Mechanic Street Wastewater Pump Station (WWPS) that deliver wastewater to the Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF). These force mains were found to be in need of repair and replacement. A project for this work has been designed and the construction of this effort will begin in late November 2021 – December 2021.

In May 2020, the 24” force main that runs under the Peirce Island Road Bridge was discovered to be in need of repair. That repair work was completed and included the replacement of a section of the buried 24” force main that extends from the Peirce Island Bridge to the Boat Launch.

The buried portion of the 24” force main that runs from the Boat Launch to the WWTF is currently inoperable and is in need of replacement due to its condition and age. In addition, the parallel 18” force main that runs underground is scheduled to be replaced due to its age, but is still in operation.

In order to maintain flow capacity until the 24” and 18” force mains can be replaced a 30” temporary force main was installed above ground along Peirce Island Road, beginning at the Boat Launch parking area and continuing to the WWTF.

On December 7, 2020, the City Council authorized funding for the replacement of the 24” and 18” force mains.  The project was bid in November of 2021 and awarded to Revoli Construction.Work on the replacement project is scheduled to start on November 29, 2021 and continue to June 2022.
