The Hanover Street entrance is now open with new payment processing technology (much like at Foundry Garage). Current Hanover pass holders need new pass cards. You can get your new pass card by bringing the old one to the Hanover Garage office on May 1 or 2 (after that the new pass cards will be available at the main Foundry Garage office).

Full project work schedule through April 21, 2024

Background:

The City is undertaking a significant upgrade to the Hanover Parking Garage, starting in July 2022. This work is addressing aged sections of the garage to extend its useful life and provide parking for the foreseeable future. City Staff provides regular updates on this project via this webpage.

Scope of the project:

The main portion of the Hanover Garage was built in 1985 with 300 spaces added in 2000. Proceeding from the engineering analysis completed in 2021, the project includes structural maintenance and upgrades to steel structural beams and columns as well as precast floor slabs. Construction is anticipated to continue for the next three years and will require phased closures (up to 300 parking spaces at a time), over the span of the construction.

In anticipation of this project, staff reduced the number of monthly pass holders at the Hanover Garage. These adjustments allowed the continued operation of the garage during construction without displacement of current monthly pass holders. Transient traffic, however, will be affected by the reduced inventory. These patrons will use Foundry Garage or on-street parking. Residents and downtown businesses are reminded to take advantage of the Resident Discount (50 cents per hour discount on-street parking) and Downtown Workforce Parking Program that offers significant incentives to park at the Foundry Garage.

Project funding:

The City Council approved funding in the Fiscal Year 2022 Capital Improvement Plan and authorized bonding on August 2, 2021 for $6.3 million for upgrades to the Hanover Parking Garage facility. This project is paid by parking revenues only. No tax dollars will be used to fund this project.
