6:30 p.m., March 6, 2018, Conference Room A, Portsmouth City Hall
The Cable Television and Communications Commission invites the public to a hearing on March 6, 2018 at Portsmouth City Hall, Conference Room A at 6:30 p.m. to receive comment on the cable television needs and interests of the City. Comcast is currently providing cable television services to the City of Portsmouth pursuant to a 10-year franchise agreement that is set to expire November 2018. The Commission is preparing for upcoming negotiations with Comcast to renew that franchise agreement and seeks public input. The franchise agreement does not regulate rates or programming: it does cover service performance and system requirements, municipal drops, public access and government channels, and a local office. Internet and telephone services are not covered by the franchise agreement. A copy of the current franchise agreement can be found above.
The Commission conducted a survey last year to obtain baseline information from Portsmouth residents with regard to service and other cable-related issues. This public hearing is a further opportunity for residents to provide input ahead of negotiations with Comcast.
The Commission is also soliciting written comment until March14 for those unable to attend the hearing or who prefer to express their views in writing. Those comments should be directed to the attention of the Deputy City Attorney at: 1 Junkins Avenue, Portsmouth, NH 03801, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
