SALARY RANGE: $19.97 to $21.99
QUALIFICATIONS: An applicant for this position must have graduated from high school, or earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED) and be able to obtain the necessary deep water safety, pool/spa operator and SCUBA certifications by the conclusion of his/her probationary period. Three or more years of experience in custodial, maintenance, and pool operations work is required. Incumbents must maintain all required certifications, and licensing in the operation and maintenance of pools and spas. An incumbent must possess a valid commercial drivers license, class B and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City. Obtaining additional certification or licensing may be required.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The purposes of this position are to operate, clean, perform routine and preventative maintenance on, and to secure the City’s swimming pools, spas, related pumps, filters and equipment, and the associated buildings and grounds. The work is performed under the direction of the facilities foreman. This position supervises custodians in the operation and maintenance of pools. It involves performing frequent water quality tests. Chemical and other additives must be appropriately applied to maintain required water quality, bacteria kill, pH balance, and applicable health and safety standards. All facilities must be cleaned, maintained, and ventilated so as to provide for their safe use and appropriate appearance including access ways, decks, public and staff lavatories, locker rooms, pools, spas, safety equipment, function rooms, HVAC systems, and service areas. The work involves entering the swimming pool using SCUBA under supervision, and performing work under water. Careful records of all water tests and water quality and facility maintenance activities must be maintained. Performance is subject to review according to the City’s personnel plan through observation, reports, and the results achieved.
