Recreation Department Invites the Public to Create Valentine Hearts for the Annual “Tree of Love” in Market Square

January 23, 2024

The City has "left the lights on" the holiday tree in Market Square and, with Valentine’s Day approaching on February 14, is inviting the public to help transform it into the "Tree of Love."

From toddlers to seniors, the Portsmouth Recreation Department welcomes all who would like to participate. Residents, visitors, and members of the business community can make or color a heart – creativity is the name of the game!

Once completed, decorated hearts can be mailed to or dropped off at the Community Campus at 100 Campus Drive, the Connie Bean Center at 155 Parrott Avenue, or Portsmouth Senior Activity Center at 125 Cottage Street. The deadline is Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Recreation Department staff will laminate the hearts and hang them on the Tree of Love in time for Valentine’s Day.

Participants are invited to find their hearts on the tree in Market Square between the afternoon of Friday, February 9 and Wednesday, February 14. Participants are encouraged to tag their photos with the decorated heart #Portsmouth Rec and #portsmouthtreeoflove on social media.
