Free, reusable bags available for Portsmouth residents at Library and Senior Center

The City has made available several hundred reusable bags at the Library and Senior Center that residents can pick up and take home free of charge. The Sustainability and Recycling departments worked in conjunction to research a quality bag for residents that would not only encourage reuse, but also echoed the City’s environmental values; therefore, these bags have been made from 100% recycled plastic materials.

Public Meeting to Review the Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment on Historic Portsmouth

On Thursday, February 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, the Historic District Commission will be hosting a presentation from the Planning Department to share with the community details of work that has been undertaken to assess the potential risks and impacts from sea level rise and/or coastal flooding on the landscapes, buildings, and structures within Portsmouth’s Historic District.

Mayor Blalock Declares October 5th as Energy Efficiency Day

Mayor Jack Blalock has declared October 5th to be Energy Efficiency Day in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Portsmouth now joins a nationwide network of energy efficiency groups and partners who are celebrating the nation’s second annual Energy Efficiency Day.

For Mayor Blalock, it is important to further unite the community in the City’s sustainable efforts. This action to officially recognize Energy Efficiency Day complements ongoing initiatives by the City and invites residents to celebrate more eco-friendly practices.

Portsmouth LED Street Light Project 95 Percent Complete

Since April, the Department of Public Works has been working with Eversource and Affinity LED Lighting to assist in converting all of its high pressure sodium (HPS) street lights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights. With this citywide implementation, the City will experience further reductions in energy consumption, costs and light pollution, along with improved visibility and safety on the roads.
