Portsmouth Schools Remote Learning to Begin 3/18/20

March 14, 2020

Dear Families,

As a follow-up to my message yesterday, this message is to inform you that we will enact a plan to transition our students to remote learning this week. We know this shift will be challenging and we are committed to working with families to keep students engaged in their learning. Our plan is as follows:

  1. We will have students attend school Monday and Tuesday of this week. This time will be used by teachers to give students the necessary instruction to access their learning remotely. In many cases this will involve online resources, and we want to help address any issues students may face with access to technology.
  1. Students will stay home and engage in remote learning beginning Wednesday. Staff will be communicating with parents and students remotely. In some cases, and particularly with our younger learners, parents may receive packets and materials to work with students on at home.Specific expectations for student work will be sent next week.
  1. We don’t know how long this will be. We understand that this is a hardship for many. We will evaluate the COVID-19 issue weekly.  In all likelihood this plan could be in place for multiple weeks.
  1. We are putting a food distribution plan in place. More information will come out before Wednesday on how students can access meals. We are considering a drive up location and also a distribution method to be sure all students have access to nutritious meals.

More information will follow from your child’s school and teachers in the coming days specific to the classroom plan. I appreciate your support as we continue this unprecedented journey. This is an amazing community and together we can help our students stay safe and progress with their learning.

Sincerely,

Steve Zadravec
