The Recreation Department hosts a variety of Special Events from school dances to day trips to New York City. View the list of Special Events for Fall, Winter, and Spring below.

 

Middle School Dances

Middle School Dances are only for Portsmouth Middle School Students or Portsmouth resident Middle School Students

Dance Date: Friday, March 9, 2018

Dance Hours: 7:30 - 9:30 pm SHARP

Dances are held in the Portsmouth Middle School Cafeteria and are fully chaperoned by Portsmouth Recreation Department Staff.

Admission is $4.00 or $3.00 with a merit card.  Again this year all Portsmouth Middle School students will be required to show their student I.D. card to enter the dances.

26th Annual Turkey Shoot

Portsmouth Residents Only

Location: Connie Bean Center

Date/Time: Saturday, November 18 9:00 am-12:00 noon

Ages: Boys/Girls in grades K-5

Fee:  FREE!

We ask everyone to bring a non-perishable food item that will be given to a family in need in the seacoast area.

Brief Description:  This Thanksgiving the kids are going to bring home the turkey!  Children will be divided by grade and shoot basketball FOWL shots to try and win a big turkey for Thanksgiving!  All participants will receive certificates and lollipops.

Annual Holiday Parade

The Annual Holiday Parade will be held Saturday, December 3, at 6:00pm.

Rain/Snow Date: Sunday, December 4, 6:00pm

Downtown Portsmouth will be host to the huge parade featuring Santa himself!

CHRISTMAS WEEK BOSTON FAMILY TRIP

The Portsmouth Recreation Department will be offering a Day Trip to Boston, MA on Wednesday, December 27th.  The trip is an opportunity for families to spend a day in Boston over the Christmas break without the hassle of driving or parking.  The cost for the round trip coach bus service is $20 per person.  The bus will drop off and pick up all passengers at Faneuil Hall.  From there you can explore the city where ever you want to go. All children must be accompanied by an adult.  No one under the age of 18 allowed without adult supervision.

The bus will depart from the Connie Bean Recreation Center at 9:00am and return at 6:30pm.  Registration will begin on Monday, December 4 at 4:00pm at the Connie Bean Center.  For further information, please call Barry Foley at (603) 817-9483.

Note: Trip will leave Boston at 5:15pm SHARP to return home

 

Father/Daughter Valentine Day Dance

The Portsmouth Recreation Department cordially invites all girls in grades K-5 and their dads (or grandfather, uncles, brothers, etc.) to attend our 22nd Annual Father/Daughter Valentine Dance on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 6:00-8:30 pm at the Portsmouth Middle School Cafeteria.

Cost is $15.00 per couple.  (No extra charge for additional daughters)

Special corsages will be given out to all the young ladies.

No pre-registration, payments will be collected at the door.  All couples are asked to donate some snacks, either finger sandwiches or dessert treats.

The snow date is Saturday, February 17

Annual Easter Egg Hunt

PORTSMOUTH RESIDENTS ONLY!

Come join the Recreation Department in an old fashion Easter Egg Hunt to be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018.  The hunt is held at Langdon Park located across from City Hall on Junkins Avenue.  To go along with the hunt we will also be having face painting and some other special activities going on for the kids as well as a visit from the Easter Bunny himself.  The hunt for pre-school age only begins at 10:30 am, followed by the K-2 grade hunt at 11:30 am.  Eggs and prizes for everyone.  Please bring a basket!
