Spaulding Turnpike exit ramp to Echo Avenue closing for a trial period beginning July 20th

July 20, 2018

The City of Portsmouth, in cooperation with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, will be closing the exit ramp to Echo Avenue from the Spaulding Turnpike on Friday, July 20, 2018. The closure is planned to be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for a six-month trial period. The closure is intended to reduce the volume of traffic using Echo Avenue as a “cut-through” from the Turnpike to Woodbury Avenue. During this time, the City will monitor traffic volumes and speeds on neighborhood streets, including Farm Lane and Rockingham Avenue, to determine if traffic is diverting to these streets. A message board will be installed on the Turnpike in advance of the exit two weeks prior to the closure, to inform motorists of the pending action.
