This project was recommended by the Banfield Master Plan process, which was completed by the City in 2016 and incorporated comments received from two public input meetings. This work is critical for public safety. It will address sections of Banfield Road that are very narrow and adjacent to open water. Widening the roadway will improve safety for pedestrians and allow for the installation of a guardrail.
The project construction contract was awarded to John H. Lyman & Sons, Inc. of Gilford, NH. Construction is anticipated to begin in early September and continue until winter weather prevents further work. The balance of the work will be completed in the spring of 2021.
Work includes the following:
- Roadway widening
- Replacement of six (6) culverts (Base Bid)
- Installation of a closed drainage system for future curbing and sidewalk installation
- Installation of guardrail adjacent to wetland areas
- Roadway paving from Ocean Road to Heritage Drive*
- Ancillary tasks
*Paving between Heritage Drive and Peverly Hill Drive will take place as part of a separate project this fall.
