Portsmouth Celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride Month

Mayor Deaglan McEachern joined US Congressman Chris Pappas to celebrate the start of LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Portsmouth. The Mayor read a Proclamation noting that Pride Month was created in 1999 in commemoration of the Stonewall Uprising in 1969. He said 

"The City’s Mission Statement says, “The City is committed to establishing and maintaining a diverse, fiscally-sound municipality and a safe and welcoming environment” -- and that means making sure our LGBTQ community can prosper here. Being The City of the Open Door means living up to the promises of keeping our doors open to every member of this community. " Full Proclamation: 

​Rep. Pappas thanked everyone for joining to celebrate the occasion. Also attending were City Manager Karen Conard, ​DPW Director Peter Rice, members of the Portsmouth City Council Kate Cook and Beth Moreau, and Hershey Hischkop, executive director of Seacoast Outright.
