City Announces Free Parking Dates and Transportation Logistics for the Holiday Season

PORTSMOUTH, NH - The City of Portsmouth will continue their tradition of offering free parking to celebrate the holiday season. On-street and public lot parking will be free starting Saturday, December 19th, and running through Sunday, December 27th. Posted time limits will still be in effect, with vehicles exceeding those limits in the same space being subject to violations. Parking rates at the Hanover Parking Garage will continue to be $1.25 per hour, with free parking on Sunday for Portsmouth residents.
Portsmouth's free parking and shuttle service, running between the Connect Community Church parking lot on Market Street and the Hanover Parking Garage, will have expanded service for New Year's Eve, running two shuttle busses on Thursday, December 31st, from 4:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. The parking shuttle will not be operating on Christmas or New Year's Day and will close for the season after Sunday, January 3rd. On New Year's Eve, Pro Portsmouth will be hosting its annual First Night® event in the downtown area. The Hanover Parking Garage will be offering a $5 flat fee parking rate during these activities. Downtown Holiday Season Parking and Transportation Options 2015
Visitors to the Portsmouth Downtown this holiday season are encouraged to take advantage of a number of parking options available to the public.
Free Holiday Parking in Downtown
On-street and public lot parking will be free starting Saturday, December 19th, and running through Sunday, December 27th, 2015. Please note that posted time limits
are still in effect and that vehicles exceeding those limits in the same space will be subject to violations.
Downtown Parking Shuttle
On Fridays and Saturdays starting at Noon and Sundays starting at 1pm the Free Parking Shuttle runs from the Connect Community Church public parking lot on Market St to the Hanover Parking Garage. The Shuttle will also be in service for First Night (Thursday the 31st) starting at 4pm.
Holiday shoppers and visitors wishing to spend time more time downtown than is allowed on the meters are encouraged to use the Hanover Parking Garage at 34 Hanover Street for $1:25 per hour. Residents may also park for free in the Garage on Sundays. During First Night on Thursday, December 31st, the Garage will offer a flat parking rate of $5.

Downtown Parking Validation Program
Several downtown merchants belong to the Downtown Parking Validation Program
that allows them to provide their customers with up to four hours of free parking at
the High-Hanover Garage. Participating merchants display a blue sticker with letter
"P" in their storefront windows.
