Free Holiday Parking in Downtown
The traditional free holiday parking period at downtown Portsmouth meters will be in effect from Monday, December 15, 2014 through Friday, January 2, 2015.
Parking Enforcement Officers will continue to enforce the posted time limits at the metered spaces. As always, other parking violations also will be ticketed, such as unauthorized parking in handicap spaces or in loading zones.
Downtown Parking Validation Program
Several downtown merchants belong to the Downtown Parking Validation Program that allows them to provide their customers with up to four hours of free parking at the High-Hanover Garage. Participating merchants display a blue sticker with letter "P" in their storefront windows.
Downtown Parking Shuttle
On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting at 12 noon, the Free Parking Shuttle runs from the Connect Community Church public parking lot on Market St to the Hanover Parking Garage. The Shuttle will also be in service for First Night starting at 4pm.
Vintage Christmas Trolley
For the first three weekends of December, the Vintage Christmas Trolley provides free service around downtown Portsmouth for anyone traveling between Vintage Christmas events and hotels, businesses and restaurants. Holiday shoppers and visitors wishing to spend time more time downtown than is allowed on the meters are encouraged to use the Hanover Parking Garage at 34 Hanover Street for $1.00 per hour. Residents may also park for free in the Garage on Sundays.
