Students Marching to New England Championships, prepare to represent Seacoast Area at Disney Magic Music Days in April, 2008.
The Portsmouth High Clipper Marching Band came home with GOLD on Saturday, October 27, following a spectacular performance at the Maine Band Directors Association Championships held in Sanford, Maine. The eighty-five member Clipper Band, under the direction of Eric Gagnon, Steve Cirillo & Courtney Randall earned excellent ratings for Drum Major, Percussion, Music, Visual, and General Effect.
The Clippers wish to celebrate their season and thank the Seacoast Community with a final community performance this Saturday, November 3rd at 3:30 PM at “Portsmouth High School’s “Tom Daubney” Field. The public is welcome and invited to attend the performance and award ceremony, to enjoy the final local viewing of this year’s program, “The Music of John Rutter”. In the event of inclement weather, the band will perform inside.
Following the close of the marching band season, which will wrap up on Sunday November 4th at the New England Scholastic Band Association finals in Reading, Massachusetts, the band will transition to concert band mode and immediately begin preparing for holiday season performances.
The Portsmouth School Board recently endorsed the Concert and Marching Band’s participation in Disney Magic Music Days to be held at Walt Disney World during the 2008 April recess. This program, which sets the standard for which all other performance opportunities are measured, will allow the Clipper Concert and Marching Band to be exposed to the highest level of performance excellence. Not only will they march in the world-renowned “Disney Parade” before thousands of cheering park visitors in front of the Magic Castle, but they will also be involved in music workshops that take them in to a music studio where the entire band will rehearse and record a Disney soundtrack. This unique Disney program reinforces important lifelong lessons in teamwork, discipline, and artistic growth. At one of the high-profile band venues in the world, it’s the ideal choice to expand the musical education experience of our PHS Clipper Band.
The public is invited to support and congratulate these accomplished Portsmouth High School students at the brief performance and celebration to be held at 3:30 PM, Saturday, November 3rd at Portsmouth High School’s “Tom Daubney” Field.
