Things Students Wish They Had Known Before Starting Sixth Grade
If you have questions, ask them! The guidance counselors are here to help you. Your guidance counselor will be with you for the next three years, so get to know him or her. You are always welcome in the office and everyone there can give you answers to your questions.
The eighth graders are not nearly as scary as they first appear.
No student has ever become permanently lost at Portsmouth Middle School. Sixth graders have their own wing and it won't be long before the school doesn't seem so big.
Rotating classes and switching teachers is actually fun!
Having a locker is great, but don't worry if you can't remember your combination. Your homeroom teacher has a copy.
The school nurse is really nice. Her name is Ms. Pamboukes and her office is down the hall from the office and the guidance counselors. She is very willing to assist you with any health matters. If you need to see her about a personal issue, don't be embarrassed. She is very adept at keeping matters private and confidential.
Each grade has its own lunch period. There is no assigned seating, so you can sit with your friends, old and new.
It is hard to get up early in the morning.
The schedule is tricky at first, but you'll get used to it.
There are a lot of fun activities offered at Portsmouth Middle School. Make sure you try some of them.
