Penguins don't fly.

Each eats krill.

Nests are where they lay.

Gentoo is a name.

Underwater they swim.

I like penguins.

Nice or not.

adult penguin with juvenile
Sleek feathers, downy feathers, I like them a lot!

Some penguins are black, white, and yellow
And theyíre awful short fellows
Their skin is not feathery
Instead itís all leathery
They swim they donít fly
And they couldnít tell you why.

(This poem was written with some help from dad.)

Penguins Having Fun

Once there were penguins. They jumped on pieces of ice  and they hopped on an island. They jumped to Antarctica. They hopped into the water.

The following story is written by a group of four children.

Little Lost Penguin

Once upon a time there was a little baby emperor penguin that had an exciting day. He was very, very hungry. He was looking for food. He was afraid to go in the water because there were enemies in the water. It wandered away and soon it was lost. He became very scared because he was so little. He walked and walked until he got tired. He slept for a while. He woke up and walked some more. Then he found some food! He thought he saw his mother. He was so excited! But it wasn't his mother. It was a king penguin. The king penguin brought him home. They lived happily ever after.

Anna, The Icy Penguin

One day Anna was taking a walk. On her walk she saw her best friend Sami. Anna and Sami were having a lot of fun on the ice. They were playing on the ice. It was very fun on the ice. Then it was time to go home.
On the way home Sami was the first to get home. When Anna got home she asked her Mom if she could have a friend over. Her Mom said. "You can have a friend over, but who do you want over?"
"I want Sami over," said Anna. When Sami got over they all played outside on the ice.

An Icy Day in Antarctica

It was a stormy night in Antarctica. Thunder was cracking. Lightning was flashing. The penguins were frightened. They were also excited because after the storms it was very icy. They liked to slide on the ice that came after the storm. After the storm it was very icy. It was also time for laying eggs. When the chicks were born they were curious about the ice. They slipped on the ice with their parents. When the chicks got bigger they knew what the slippery stuff was.
And they lived happily ever after.
