PHS Renovations
Summary of PHS Renovation Plan

The renovation of PHS will accomplish the following:

A. Renovations and improvements to address educational programs and missions (in no particular order)-

  • Instructional space be appropriate for educational delivery of methods for the 21st Century
  • Building space be adequate to meet the instructional needs
  • Dining reconfigured with increased space
  • Move and improve space for science instruction
  • Increased space for multi-arts program
  • Space clustering of departments with interdisciplinary instruction potential
    • Math, science, computer instruction
    • English, social studies, library
    • Tech Careers
    • Fine arts, visual arts
  • Teachers retain their own classrooms as much as possible
  • Adequate teacher preparation office and storage space
  • Large group instruction area - Amphitheater 100-150 seats
  • Resource rooms dispersed into instructional areas
  • Technology labs dispersed into instructional areas
  • Reconfigure athletics and physical education support facilities
  • Centralize and reconfigure administration and student services areas
  • Enhance public access without sacrificing security

B. Renovation and improvements to address the State's minimum educational standards and other building code compliances -

  • rehabs all of the space defined as the "main building",
  • involves a "gutting" of most all internal space and replaces it with up-to-date classroom, etc. design,
  • demolishes the 1977 addition which does not serve a cost effective long-term purpose and adds (and replaces) 85.5K of new classroom and science lab space,
  • brings the building into compliance with all life-safety code compliance requirements,
  • upgrades all operating systems including HVAC, energy management, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems,
  • remove all asbestos,
  • brings the building into compliance with ADA,
  • attempts to meet the State's Ed Specs by complying with the minimum standards for instruction space in high schools,
  • provides for redesign of internal space for improving functionality in instruction, student services, and administration.
