Description: Join us for a fun day at the Community Campus! Students can take the bus from Portsmouth Elementary Schools or be dropped off. Upon arrival, we will eat lunch, play some games, and get ready for our field trip to Bowl-O-Rama (April) and TBD (May).

Fee: $25 Resident, $35 Non-Resident

Art & Story Time

Art Start is a new monthly preschool art and story time for children ages 3-4 accompanied by an adult.

Ages 3 and 4 with caregiver
One Saturday morning per month 10:00-10:45am
Preschoolers will create projects using a variety of art materials and have a
story time that is related to the seasonal theme. They will build self-esteem through experience with problem solving, fine motor activities and language skills. Must sign up for each month. $15 resident / $20 non resident per month

The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training program is designed to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic childcare. This class includes Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification.

Intro to Skateboarding

Content

During this Get On Board clinic, participants in K-2nd grade will be practicing skateboard exploration. Using different methods of skateboarding “sitting, belly, and knee” participants will learn how the skateboard reacts underneath them. Kids will also try different skateboards, learn about the parts of a skateboard, and even stand a few times to experience skateboarding on their feet. All protective gear, skateboards, and equipment will be provided. Closed toed shoes required.

USTA Tennis in the Parks

Tennis in the Parks - The tennis program where kids play while they learn!

Led by an approved USTA Net Generation tennis coach, the program will focus on developing the skills to serve, rally, and play - so it’s perfect for beginners and first-time players. This program uses modified tennis balls, age-appropriate rackets, court sizes, and the latest fun and engaging activities that help players successfully learn and play the game quicker!
All players in their first session receive and keep a new age-appropriate racquet, and tennis ball.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING - American Red Cross

Content

Blended Learning Lifeguard Training
Course length: 19 hours, 30 minutes in-person and 7 hours 30 minutes online. Total - 27 hours
Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.
Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 15 years;
  • Swim 300 yards continuously;
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs;
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

To successfully complete the Lifeguarding Blended Learning course, the participant must:

  • Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions.
  • Actively participate in all course activities, including assuming various roles during scenarios.
  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills.
  • Pass the final skills scenarios.
  • Complete all eLearning content, including the eLearning written exam (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers ;and First Aid).
  • Successfully pass final written exams with a minimum grade of 80 percent.

Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.

Sign ups start Monday, June 3, 2024 for Portsmouth Residents

Portsmouth Rec's fall soccer program is back with instructional soccer leagues for boys and girls from preschool through fourth grade. All youth soccer games take place at the Recreation Field Athletic Field Complex on Campus Drive. Players will receive a t-shirt, soccer socks and shin guards.  We need volunteer coaches for all ages groups! Coaches will have the opportunity to attend a coach's clinic at the beginning of the season and be given outlines of skills focus for the week. Thank you to our league sponsor, Marshall Rental
