The Portsmouth Indoor Pool will run the following upper-level Red Cross Aquatic classes during the upcoming months.

• Lifeguard Training: There will be three separate Lifeguard Training courses offered as detailed below. Full details are usually available at the pool or on the Indoor Pool page of this web site between 4 and 6 weeks prior to the first class. Passing this course give the participant a Lifeguard Training and First Aid card good for 3 years and a CPR for the Professional Rescuer card good for one year.
  
  The first LGT course is held on Sunday and Wed. (or Thurs.) evenings from early Jan. through mid-Feb (no class on Super Bowl Sunday). The classes are 3 hours long and begin between 4 and 5 pm.
  
  The second begins mid-March and ends in mid-May. The course is held on Saturdays and Sundays only (with possibly one mid-week class for CPR.) During the NH school vacation week (Mon. through Fri.), there will be no classes held on the Saturday or Sunday immediately prior to that week, or the Saturday afternoon immediately following that week.
  
  The third Lifeguarding course is more concentrated and is held over two weeks from mid to late May. Classes are held on both weekend and weekday afternoon/evenings.
  
  Every couple years the pool will run a "Last Chance" Lifeguard course the first week in June that runs for 8 or 9 days with class every day. This is offered ONLY if we have an available instructor AND the appropriate number of interested students. (Do not assume this class will be offered but it is a possibility.) We usually know by mid-May if this class will be offered.
  
  
• A Lifeguard Update class will re-certify Lifeguards that are due to expire soon. It will renew their Lifeguard Training cards for another 3 years. There is also an option for those who hold recently expired Lifeguard and CPR cards. These courses are usually held the last week in May. The Lifeguard Update course is held over 3 week-night evenings in a row.
  
  
• A Water Safety Instructor Course (WSI) to train swim instructors begins early April and ends in mid-May. This W.S.I. course is held on Sunday and Thursday evenings. Certification allows you to teach all levels of Red Cross learn-to-swim classes from infants through Level 6, including certain water safety classes. This class includes the required Fundamentals of Instructor Training course.
  
  
• A Lifeguard Instructor course trains qualified participants to teach the Lifeguard Training class. If we have enough participants, we usually run this class from February to mid-March. This class includes the required Fundamentals of Instructor Training course.
  
  
• Basic Water Rescue: This 5 hour course is for Summer Camp personnel, Day Care workers, Scout trip leaders, Fire and Rescue personnel and anyone who wants to learn how to protect themselves while assisting others. This class is run when the pool has enough interested people on the interest list.
