Mandatory Recycling
In 2005, Portsmouth recycled/diverted 52% of its waste from the landfill. Residents should be proud of Portsmouth's high participation and recycling rate - but there's still room for improvement.
According to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, Portsmouth ranks 17th in the state for recycling. Thank you for helping us get there and recycle diligently to help us rank even higher in 2006 and beyond!
Materials that can be recycled at the curb include aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles (#1 and #2), all fiber/paper waste - if you can rip it, recycle it!
Remember - its important to separate your recyclable items.Place in one green recycling bin all your aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles (#1 and #2)
In another green recycling bin, or paper bag, or cardboard box, place all fiber/paper waste
Fiber/paper waste includes:
Office paper
Newspaper
Magazines
Junk mail
Phone & paperback books
Manila folders
Cereal boxes
Pasta boxes
Drink boxes
Etc.
Remember: If you can rip it, recycle it!
