PORTSMOUTH, NH - With winter fast approaching, the City is finalizing preparations for the winter snow season. As part of these preparations, officials have made changes to the Snow Ban Parking Program to improve convenience for residents.
The program allows residents to park in the High Hanover Parking Garage for a flat fee of $3 during a snow emergency. Residents will present a valid driver's license or vehicle registration with a valid Portsmouth address on exiting the parking garage.
In the past, Portsmouth residents were required to obtain City-issued snow ban parking coupons in advance of a snow event. Coupons are no longer necessary. Vehicles may be parked at the facility from a declared parking ban advanced notice until two hours after its official conclusion.
A citywide parking ban goes into effect during storms that produce 2 inches or more of snow. During snow emergencies, announcements will be made on the Portsmouth Government Access Channel 22. Updates on the weather and parking may be found at www.cityofportsmouth.com, through Twitter accounts @PortsmouthDPW and @ParkPortsmouth, and through the Snow Emergency Phone at (603) 766-7669 (SNO-SNOW).
A map showing the downtown snow ban geographical area - which includes additional parking lots available for parking during snowstorms---may be found at www.cityofportsmouth.com/publicworks/snowbanparkinglots.htm.
All snow ban/parking information is available online at the addresses above, however, those with questions may contact the City parking clerk's office at (603) 610-7229 for more information.
