NEWS RELEASE

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

PORTSMOUTH BRIDGE REPAIRS WILL REQUIRE FIVE DAY CLOSURE NO MEMORIAL BRIDGE VEHICLE, BIKES, PEDS, OR MARINE TRAFFIC FROM APRIL 21-26

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces the planned closure for five days in April of the Memorial Bridge carrying US Route 1 over the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine.

In order to perform replacement of counterweight ropes, the lift bridge will be closed to vehicle, bike, pedestrians, and marine traffic from Monday, April 21 at 7:00 am to Saturday, April 26 at 7:00 am.  Work associated with this repair project will also require lane closures on the Memorial Bridge between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm during the week before and after the full closure.

Message boards will be used to alert motorists of the bridge closure.  During the closure, the navigational channel will remain open to small marine vessels that do not require a bridge lift.

SPS New England Inc. is the contractor for the $448,000 project.
