CITYWIDE PROJECTS 2011
Project # 13 Bartlett & Islington Area Sewer Improvements
News Release-Bartlett Street Paving Work Begins on May 25, May Impede Traffic
Portsmouth - Work begins Wednesday, May 25 to prepare for final paving in the Bartlett and Islington Street areas as part of the Bartlett Area Sewer Separation Project, resulting in detours and periodic traffic interruptions over the next two weeks.
However, there will be no construction work related to the project's finishing tasks during the three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Beginning this week, crews will be raising manhole frames and covers, installing the final layer of pavement, and painting permanent traffic markings throughout the entire project area of Islington and Bartlett Streets, Cate Street, Jewell Court, and Brewery Lane.
Detours will be changing on a daily basis. However, full access to businesses will be maintained during construction hours, generally on weekdays from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., with normal traffic patterns resuming in the evening.
Motorists are urged to be alert to police officers and traffic flaggers in the street, and follow detour signs or seek alternate routes to minimize inconvenience to and from travel destinations during work hours.
The Bartlett Street Project is part of the City's ongoing sewer separation program and is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Information regarding times, location, and traffic detours for construction activities is updated weekly at www.cityofportsmouth.com/projects. Anyone with questions should contact Rick Dolce at 766-1413 or Peter Rice at 766-1416.
Weeks of May 23rd and May 31st, 2011
Albanese Brothers, Inc. (ABI) will be returning to the Bartlett and Islington Street areas to complete the final aspects of construction for the Bartlett Area Sewer Separation project. During the next 2 weeks ABI will be raising manhole frames and covers, installing the final layer (top course) of pavement, and painting final traffic markings throughout the entire project area (Islington & Bartlett Streets, Cate Street, Jewell Court, and Brewery Lane). In addition they will be addressing minor punch list items, which remained at the close of the 2010 work, and some which became apparent after the winter months.
Please note, NO work will occur during the Memorial Holiday Weekend.
With paving installation moving at a quick pace, DETOURS around these area streets will be changing on a daily basis. Please be alert to police officers and traffic flaggers within the street, and follow DETOUR signs, or seek alternate routes to minimize inconvenience to and from travel destinations. Construction hours are generally 7 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Full access to businesses will be maintained during construction hours, with normal traffic patterns will resume in the evening. (See map below for work zone areas).
