Project # 12: Sagamore Bridge Replacement

Project Description: The Sagamore Bridge is currently being replaced. The new bridge will be wider allowing for easier vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle use going back and forth from Portsmouth and points in Rye and New Castle. The old bridge was taken out of service in November of 2013 and will be reopened approximately 13 months later. Posted detours take travelers around the closed bridge. Currently the bridge crews are building new abutments and piers for the new bridge structure on both sides of the Sagamore Creek. Also retaining walls at each bridge approach are under construction. The new bridge is slated to open sometime in December 2014.

The Sagamore Bridge closed to traffic on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. The bridge will reopen by Monday, December 1, 2014. Roadway and approach work will be completed no later than June 1, 2015.
