Pro Portsmouth Inc., in conjunction with the City of Portsmouth, presents
“First Night Portsmouth” with events throughout the downtown area, to include fireworks scheduled for 7:30 PM at the South Mill Pond on Parrott Avenue.

Parrott Avenue will be closed to parking and traffic beginning at noon. Pleasant Street from Market Square to State Street will be closed from 5:00 PM to Midnight. Church Street will be closed from Market Square to Porter Street. The High Hanover Parking Garage will have a flat fee of $3 payable upon entry to the garage from 4:00 PM to 9:00PM.

The dog park will be closed from 6:00 AM on Monday December 31, 2007 to 10:00 AM Tuesday January 1, 2008. Dog owners are reminded of the city ordinance forbidding dogs from any park where the Recreation Department holds scheduled programs. This includes Leary and Central Fields, the South Playground and the Connie Bean Playground.

The Portsmouth Police Department will be conducting extra patrols of the city during New Year’s Eve, to include uniformed and plain clothes police officers. D.W.I. Hunter patrols consisting of Portsmouth Police and New Hampshire State Police will also be patrolling the city.

For more details on “First Night Portsmouth” events, please visit the Pro Portsmouth web site, www.proportsmouth.org. This is a family oriented, alcohol free event, and the Portsmouth Police Department will be strictly enforcing any violations so that the citizens can have a safe and enjoyable celebration.

The Portsmouth Police Department and the City of Portsmouth wishes everyone a safe and happy New Year.
