News Releases

Date of Release: December 27, 2006
Reference: Community service program
On a regular basis, the Portsmouth Police Department receives burglary and theft complaints for property with very specific descriptions, or with serial numbers. Unfortunately, there is often no photographic record available to assist in the recovery of this property. This is especially true of pieces of jewelry.
In an effort to combat this problem, the Portsmouth Police Department, in conjunction with Crime Stoppers, will provide services to document valuable property to Portsmouth residents. Specifically, the Bureau of Investigative Services is now offering a program to provide close up photography of any valuables that a citizen may want to have recorded. This service will be free of charge
The detective will photograph the property to include close up details such as serial numbers, damage, or other specifics that make the property unique. The detective will also provide the citizen with home safety and security information, including such topics as identity theft, how to properly secure property, updating contact information, and information on Crime Stoppers. The citizen will receive the disc containing the digital images for safekeeping, hopefully never to be needed.
Anyone interested in this service is asked to call Detective Christopher Roth or Detective Tom Grella of the Bureau of Investigative Services at 436-2511.
