Earthquake in Portsmouth NH Area
On Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at approx. 11:41 am the Portsmouth Police and Fire Departments received numerous 911 calls about explosions heard in the area of Lafayette Road (US Route 1) and Ocean Road. Some of the residents reported a very loud explosion and others reported house shaking. There is one confirmed report of minor damage to a house on Ocean Road. This damage was limited to a crack in the ceiling with things knocked off the shelves. There were no reports of injuries.
The USGS Earthquake Hazards Program is reporting a 2.4 magnitude earthquake in the area of Portsmouth, NH at 11:41am.
This incident and the aftermath are being monitored by the Portsmouth Fire Department as lead incident command, the Portsmouth Police Department and Portsmouth Emergency Management.
