Reference: Armed Robbery Arrest

At 7:53 PM on Sunday, October 8th, 2006 the Portsmouth Police Department responded to the Naber Market on Middle Street for reported robbery. Responding officers learned that a lone male had entered the store and sprayed the clerk with a chemical irritant. The suspect then removed cash from the store register and fled. Witnesses in the area were able to provide the police with a description of the suspect and his vehicle.
Within minutes of the initial call Officer Aaron Stacy located the vehicle and the suspect, subsequently identified as Cory A. Jarest (11-6-85), at his residence, 9 Kent Street in Portsmouth. Jarest was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search resulted in the recovery of stolen money and other evidence.
The store clerk was treated by the Portsmouth Fire Department and declined further medical assistance.
Jarest is being held on $10,000 cash and $20,000 personal recognizance bail. He will be arraigned in the Portsmouth District Court at 8:30AM on 10-10-06.
