Reference: Law Enforcement Assistance to Law Enforcement Officers in Louisiana
Date of Release: September 22nd, 2005
In response to a Nationwide call for assistance from Law Enforcement Officers in the stricken area's affected by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, The Portsmouth Police Department will be sending some of our surplus Law Enforcement related equipment that they have specifically asked for.
We are directly supporting the Louisiana Sheriff's Departments for their need of
Emergency Blue Light Bars (8 that were scheduled for destruction)
Latex gloves
Alcohol hand wash
Gun leather equipment
Handcuffs
Lightweight jackets
These surplus items will be shipped down immediately. They have reported to us a great need to re-supply as much of their equipment has been flooded and no longer work or has been lost in the rubble of the officers homes.
We are proud to assist these officers in need. None of this equipment that we are sending will affect the emergency daily operations of the Portsmouth Police Department.
