Reference: Arrest of Cody Mros

Date of Release: July 25th, 2005

On Sunday July 24th, 2005 at 2:53am, the Portsmouth Police Department responded to several emergency calls from area residents reporting a loud crash in the area of Ocean Road and the Railroad Tracks. One witness was found to have heard this accident over mile away. Responding officers found a single car collision involving a 1992 Chevy 1500 Pick-Up Truck that preliminary investigation showed was traveling at an excessive speed, left the roadway, struck a fence, several trees and a telephone utility pole breaking that in half. The truck was almost sawed in half from these impacts, sustaining devastating damage. One person was found in the truck and sustained deep cuts to a hand and arm along with a broken bone and was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital by the Portsmouth Fire Department. The other person in this truck was believed to have fled the scene or was ejected and a search of the area was initiated with the Portsmouth Police K-9 Unit and the Portsmouth Fire Department.

This person was tracked by the K-9 and later found, injured, about 1 mile away as he was about to enter the apartment of a friend and was identified and subsequently brought to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital by the Portsmouth Fire Department. Forensic evidence of injuries and seatbelt burns to his neck and chest area is consistent to believe that the person who fled was the passenger of the truck and that the person that was found inside the truck by first responding officers is believed to be the driver. Forensic evidence and wound analysis is consistent in believing that

was the driver of the truck at the time of the collision. He was later arrested and charged with

Driving While Intoxicated
False Report of an Accident
Reckless Operation
Illegal Transportation of Alcohol

Bail was set at $2,000 Personal Recognizance with a Portsmouth District Court date of August 5th, 2005.

We are asking those people who have yet to be identified or interviewed, that may have witnessed this incident or have knowledge about this to contact Officer Eric Kinsman at the Portsmouth Police Department at 610-7519 or Crimestoppers at 431-1199. The Portsmouth Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Rye Police Department and the NH Liquor Commission.
