July 8, 2005, Oath Administered to Two New Portsmouth Police Officers

Portsmouth Police Chief Michael J. Magnant administered the oath of office to the City of Portsmouth’s two newest police officers, Duane Jacques and Charles Raizes. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the William Mortimer Conference Room at the Portsmouth Police Department on Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 1:30 PM.

Jacques is a May 2001 graduate of the New Hampshire Police Academy. He worked as a patrol officer for the Somersworth Police Department for over four years prior to joining the Portsmouth Police Department. Prior to becoming a police officer, Duane worked at the Rockingham County Jail and served in the United States Marine Corps for four years as a machine gunner in the Infantry Division.

Raizes is a 2005 graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and a 2001 graduate of Portsmouth High School. He will be attending the 138th class of the New Hampshire Police Academy in August 2005.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by about two dozen members of the department as well as family and friends of the new officers.
