On Sunday, June 3rd, 2007, the following individual was arrested by the Portsmouth Police Department as a result of an arrest warrant:
Nathan M. Smith
Date of birth 06/04/89
823 Islington Street, Apt. 1
Nathan Smith was arrested for the following:
Burglary (class A Felony),
Theft by Unauthorized Taking (class B Felony),
Receiving Stolen Property (class A Misdemeanor).
This arrest is the result of an investigation that began on April 15th, 2007, when it is alleged that Smith burglarized a Peverly Hill Road residence and stole a motor vehicle.
At that time, patrol officers and detectives responded to the residence after the homeowners called police because their vehicle was stolen from their garage. The scene was processed for evidence, and several interviews were conducted. Further investigation led to the arrest of Nathan Smith. The stolen motor vehicle (a BMW), has since been recovered and towed to the Portsmouth Police Department for further processing.
Nathan Smith was arraigned this morning at the Portsmouth District Court. He is currently being held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections on $50,000 cash bail. He is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on June 11th, 2007 at 8:45 AM at Portsmouth District Court.
This investigation is ongoing, and there may be more criminal charges forthcoming in relation to thefts from motor vehicles. The Portsmouth Police Department reminds citizens to always lock their cars, even if they are unattended for a short time, or even if they are parked in their own driveway.
