Reference: Automobile Accident---Bow St. @ Market St. Accident---September 24th, 2005

On September 24th, 2005 at approximately 1:08pm, a motor vehicle accident occurred on Bow St. at the intersection of Market St. As a result of the accident, Rachelle Selkovits, DOB 03/06/40 of Cambridge, Massachusetts sustained a serious head injury and was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. A press release was done that day and is attached.
Today we have concluded the investigation with the counsel of the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office and make the following findings:
- The driver of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck was Evan Thompson of York, ME and was making a left hand turn from Market St. on to Bow St.
- The pedestrian, Rachelle Selkovits of Cambridge, MA was walking in a northerly direction crossing Bow St. at Market St. It is unclear if Selkovits was in the crosswalk at that intersection at the time of the accident.
- The roadway was in good condition clear of dirt and debris.
- Mechanical failure was not found on the vehicle involved or contributed to the accident.
- There was no alcohol or illegal drug involvement that contributed to the accident.
- 5 people were identified as witnesses to the collision.
- After careful analysis of all data collected as evidence in this case and after several months of investigation, the Portsmouth Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team has concluded that there will be no charges filed in this case.
- The investigation was led by the Portsmouth NH Police Department and the Department’s Accident Investigation Team as well as the Portsmouth Fire Department and the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office.
