Reference:    Promotion to Captain

On November 5, 2009 the Portsmouth Police Commission voted unanimously to promote Lt. Frank Warchol to the rank of Portsmouth Police Captain.

Captain Warchol has been a police officer for 17 years, the last 15 years serving the Portsmouth Police Department.  Captain Warchol began his police career with the University of New Hampshire Police Department in 1991.  After 2 1/2 years as a campus police officer, he was hired by the Town of Lee as a patrol officer.  The Portsmouth Police Department hired Captain Warchol in 1994 and he spent the next 6 years as a patrol officer.  During that time frame, he became a member of the Seacoast Emergency Response Team, the Accident Investigation Team, Field Training Officer program and was a Use of Force instructor.

In the fall of 1999, Captain Warchol was promoted to Detective.  He spent the next 3 1/2 years investigating juvenile crimes, domestic violence incidents as well as robberies, burglaries and homicides.  Captain Warchol has received many recognitions especially for his investigative work dealing with Internet Crimes Against Children.  In the summer of 2003, Captain Warchol was promoted to Sergeant and returned as a supervisor in the patrol division where he served in that position for the next 5 years.  In the spring of 2008, Captain Warchol was promoted to Lieutenant where he was placed in charge of Personnel & Training.

Captain Warchol was instrumental in implementing the Drug Free Housing Zones program throughout the City of Portsmouth. He volunteers for nonprofit groups that focus on developmentally disabled children.  He holds a Bachelors of Psychology degree from the University of NH and lives in Portsmouth with his wife and daughter.

Deputy Chief DuBois has assigned Captain Warchol to serve as the Administration Division Commander that is being vacated by the retirement of Captain Tim Brownell.
