On September 17, 2009 the Portsmouth Police Commission voted unanimously to promote Detective Christopher Roth and Patrol Officer David Keaveny to the rank of Portsmouth Police Sergeant.
Sergeant Roth began his career with the Portsmouth Police Department in 1991 as a second generation Portsmouth police officer. His father, Robert Roth, was a Police Captain in Portsmouth for 24 years retiring in 1981. During Sgt Chris Roth’s nine years in patrol, he obtained seven instructor certifications and was a Field Training Officer. He obtained an entry position on the Emergency Response Team later elevating to a Team Leader for SERT (Seacoast Emergency Response Team). In his ten years with the Bureau of Investigations, he has taken part in nearly 400 crime scenes, developed the department’s current Valuable Photography Program and coordinated and co-authored the detective training manual, the first ever in the history of the Portsmouth police. He is currently a member of the Accident Investigation Team and was recently the recipient of the Police Departments Investigator of the Year.
Sgt. Roth bikes annually for two charities. He is a regular guest lecturer at UNH on crime scene management and holds seminars locally on identity fraud and scams.
Sgt. Roth is a Portsmouth native and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1985. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and is a graduate of the 93rd New Hampshire Police Academy.
Sgt. Roth lives in Stratham with his wife of 15 years and their three-year old daughter.

Sergeant Keaveny started his career with the Portsmouth Police Department in 2003. Prior to Portsmouth he worked for the City of Keene, New Hampshire Police Department starting his law enforcement career in January of 2000. In Sergeant Keaveny’s nine years as a police officer he has been a member of the Seacoast Emergency Response Team, the Field Training Evaluation Program and the Accident Investigation Team. Sergeant Keaveny has spent the last three summers working in Portsmouth’s Downtown.
Sergeant Keaveny has contributed his time to the Portsmouth Athletic League, Special Olympics and the Police Explorer’s post.
Sergeant Keaveny attended the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business and graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a minor in Justice Studies.
Sergeant Keaveny resides in the Seacoast area with his wife and their daughter.
