At approximately 10:00PM on Monday night (8-24-09) the Portsmouth Police Department responded to the Sunoco gas station located at 766 Lafayette Road for an assault.  Witnesses at the scene stated that Alan Danielson (5-26-78) had entered the office area and began striking the clerk.  Danielson then damaged some office equipment before removing an amount of cash from the register. Danielson left the gas station and was taken into custody a short distance away.   Investigation revealed that Danielson had committed the above acts in the presence of a three year old family member.  The police also learned that subsequent to leaving the Sunoco gas station Danielson slapped the three year old across the face. The child did not sustain serious injuries and was released to another family member.

Danielson, who gave an address of 600 Lafayette Road in Portsmouth, was charged with the following crimes:

Robbery (Felony)
Criminal Mischief (misdemeanor)
Simple Assault (misdemeanor)
Endangering the Welfare of a Child (misdemeanor)

Danielson refused the services of a bail commissioner and was held for arraignment in the Portsmouth District Court later today.
