As part of the Portsmouth Police Department’s summer basketball league for youths in the seacoast community, the Friends Project league is run every Wednesday night at the South Mill courts at 6:00 PM. The Friends Project is comprised of youths in the seacoast with special needs.
Last night, the Friends Project team defeated the Portsmouth School Department/City Councilor team, 87 to 52. See photo below from last night’s game that was held at the New Heights Center. Next Wednesday night at 6:00 PM, the Friends Project team will be taking on a team comprised of Portsmouth Postal employees. The public is invited to attend this event, and the game will be held at the South Mill courts, and if it rains, it will be held at the New Heights Center located at the Community Campus on West Road.
The Portsmouth Police Department summer basketball league is run by Detectives Robert Munson and Aaron Goodwin, who are the school resource officers at Portsmouth High School and Middle School respectively. On Thursday nights the girl’s league plays at the New Heights Center, and on Friday nights the boy’s league plays at the high school.
Many of these teams are coached by members of the Portsmouth Police Department.
The Portsmouth Police Department summer basketball league is part of the department’s commitment to community based policing, and keeping youths safe and healthy.
