On Friday night, July 24th through Saturday morning, July 25th 2009, police officers from Portsmouth P.D., the Rockingham County Sheriffs Department, Rye P.D., The University of New Hampshire P.D. and the N.H. Liquor Commission Bureau or Enforcement conducted a sobriety checkpoint on the northbound side of the Spaulding Turnpike in Portsmouth.
During the operational briefing Chief Michael Magnant, who is retiring after 30 years with the Portsmouth P.D. and who has been one of the driving forces in alcohol enforcement in the seacoast, thanked participating officers and Police Explorers who make these initiatives possible.
545 vehicles were screened by officers and as a result the following people were taken into custody:

Charged with Possession or Marijuana

Charged with Possession of Marijuana
Catherine Dobroski, 5-17-91, 32 Middle Road, Dover, NH.
Charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated, Transporting Alcohol and Unlawful Possession of Alcohol
Peter Farrington, 4-27-77, 56 Emerson Road, Durham NH
Charged with Driving While Intoxicated
Jonathan Adams, 7-31-81, 6 New Road, Newmarket NH
Charged with Driving While Intoxicated
All of the people arrested were released on personal recognizance bail and are scheduled for arraignment in the Portsmouth District Court at 8:30 AM on August 10th, 2009.
Expect more DUI Hunter Patrols, Saturation Patrols and Sobriety Checkpoints throughout 2009. We urge would-be impaired drivers to designate a sober driver or make alternative arrangements.
