On Tuesday, August 7, neighborhoods throughout Portsmouth are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 29th Annual National Night Out Against Crime (NNO). Portsmouth's Neighborhood based NNO celebrations aim to foster partnerships between Portsmouth residents and members of the police department and to strengthen and connect our community. This year marks the 18th year that neighborhoods throughout Portsmouth will participate in this national event.
The Citywide Neighborhood Committee, a mayoral blue ribbon committee, and the Portsmouth Police Department co-sponsor this annual event. Neighborhoods interested in joining the event should send a representative to the planning meeting to be held at 7:00 on June 12th at the Portsmouth Police Department. All participating neighborhood groups are required to fill out a participation form and attend at least one planning meeting. A second organizational meeting will be held in conjunction with the Citywide Neighborhood Committee meeting at 7:00 on July 10th at City Hall in conference room A.
NNO is an evening outdoors filled with social activities and block parties, designed to strengthen neighborhood cooperation and police-community partnership. The Portsmouth Fire Department, Public Works Department, the Portsmouth School Board and Portsmouth’s elected officials are all active participants in National Night Out.
Cristy Cardoso, Chair of the Citywide Neighborhood Committee, 512-3634 cncchair@gmail.com or Deputy Chief Stephen DuBois 610-7572 are available to answer questions about this event.
