The Portsmouth Police Department will once again be participating with other law enforcement agencies in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run. The torch run will be held on Friday, June 13th, 2008 starting at Market Square at noon. As in years past, the run will be approximately three miles to the Newington town line on Woodbury Avenue, and end at the Great Bay School.
Additionally, Portsmouth Police Department officers and employees will be volunteering their time at the annual ‘pump and serve’ on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 at the Irving Blue Canoe on Lafayette Road. The public is urged to fill up their gas tanks there from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM, with a percentage of proceeds donated to Special Olympics.
The Portsmouth Police Department is committed to the goals of Special Olympics, and for the past several years this effort has been spearheaded by Officer David Colby.
The department also runs a summer basketball league, with one night devoted to special needs youths in our community.
