South Street and Miller Avenue Intersection
On Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at approximately 9:13pm the Portsmouth Police Department responded to a report of a head on collision in the intersection of South Street and Miller Avenue. Preliminary reports indicate the victim was turning left onto South Street (from Sagamore Avenue) when the suspect (approaching from Miller Avenue) struck the victim’s car nearly head on. The suspect vehicle then fled (southeast) toward the Town of Rye. Subsequent searches conducted by both the Portsmouth and Rye Police Departments were unsuccessful at locating the suspect.
The victim was not injured, however; there was significant damage to his vehicle.
The suspect vehicle is described as a white (or light toned) sport utility vehicle, possibly a Jeep. There may be damage to the front grill and front driver’s side. Witnesses report a passenger in the suspect vehicle appeared to be a female with blond hair.
The Portsmouth Police Department requests anyone who witnessed this collision or who believes they know the location of the suspect vehicle to contact Officer Matt Hester with the Portsmouth Police Department at (603) 610-7502. Specific inquiries may be made with the Shift Commander at (603) 610-7406. Those who witness a crime but wish to remain anonymous are encouraged to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at (603) 431-1199. Rewards are available to those who provide information which leads to a conviction.
