For Immediate Release
December 19, 2013
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces new travel patterns associated with the replacement of two bridges spanning the Route 1 Bypass in Portsmouth.
Weather permitting, at the close of work on Monday, December 23, the new bridge carrying Middle Road (NH 33) over the Route 1 Bypass will be opened to traffic and the associated detours will be discontinued. Work requiring warmer weather (i.e., final paving, sidewalk construction and seeding) will take place in the spring. The opening of this bridge comes approximately six months ahead of schedule.
Utility relocation work will then immediately resume at the bridge carrying Islington Street over the Bypass to prepare for its closure and replacement, tentatively scheduled to begin late January. Motorists are advised to use extra caution while traveling through the work zone.
ED Swett, Inc., of Concord, New Hampshire is the prime contractor for the $4.3 million project.
