Electronic Newsletter Anniversary

PORTSMOUTH - This week marks the third-year anniversary of the electronic City of Portsmouth Community Newsletter e-mailed every other week to approximately 1,550 subscribers, City Manager John Bohenko announced Wednesday.

An additional 200 people download the newsletter from the City web site, www.CityofPortsmouth.com, each month. Current editions, as well as previous newsletters, are posted on the web site and available for accessing anytime.

“I invite all Portsmouth residents and business owners to take advantage of this initiative by signing up at www.CityofPortsmouth.com,” the City Manager said. “Our e-mail news reports are aimed at keeping local residents and businesses informed, and provide another method of alerting them to City events or projects that may have an impact on their daily lives, such as street closures.”

The e-mail newsletter is transmitted every other Wednesday and also includes information on City initiatives, changes in trash collection days, municipal projects, City-sponsored events such as the Holiday Parade, and new Recreation Department and Library programs. The electronic newsletter also can be used to provide “Special Report” time-sensitive information between editions, such as excessive flooding or the recent weather-related postponement of the July 4th Holiday fireworks display.

“We attempt to provide a wealth of information in a compact format that includes a link for readers to learn more if they so desire,” Bohenko said. “The Community Newsletter is a major element in our efforts to ensure that our citizens and businesses have all of the information they want and need about our City.”
