New Library Project Website
The City began the process of finding a site for a new library in 1988. In 1999 the New Library Building Committee was expanded and charged by Mayor Sirrell and the City Council to examine all possible alternatives for a new library. All meetings have been public and are posted in public buildings. Additionally, the City's web site has announcements of all meetings and includes much information about the project.
Architect Tom Amsler has worked with library staff and the New Library Building Committee to bring to 175 Parrott Avenue a new library which is modern in function, sensitive to the architecture of the City of Portsmouth and responsible to the environment.
