Persepolis is the animated coming-of-age story adapted from Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel of the same name. Marjane is a 9 year-old Iranian girl who is sent to school in Austria after her father dies in the Iraq/Iran war. Even in a climate of prejudice and uncertainty, Marjane’s spirit remains unscathed as she grows and gains perspective on life.

After success on India’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?,” street kid Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) is arrested under suspicion of cheating. During police interrogation, the viewer witnesses flashbacks of Jamal’s impoverished upbringing in Mumbai, his hopes, dreams, and loves, all of which are woven to explain his life and how he was able to answer the questions correctly.
