The Founding of Strawbery Banke with Dennis Robinson

Portsmouth author and historian, J. Dennis Robinson, will appear in the Levenson Community Room of the Portsmouth Public Library on Monday, May 19 at 7PM to present a slide show:  ‘The Founding of Strawbery Banke’.   Robinson’s historically accurate details and unique style of wit, irreverence and spirit will keep you enthralled.    As Robinson says,  “… people expect history to be dry stuff, … -- no way.  History is about people first, and people are pretty darn funny.”

Robinson will sign copies of his recently published book, Strawbery Banke:  A Seaport Museum 400 Years in the Making, published by Peter E. Randall Publisher of Portsmouth.  From the inside jacket, ‘Rich with pictures and painstakingly, researched, this is actually two books.  The first tracks 400 years of history along the Piscataqua River with dramatic tales that will surprise even New Hampshire residents.  The story then goes behind the scenes to the controversial founding of Strawbery Banke Museum in 1958.’

Author of numerous regional history books and articles and most recently, Wentworth by the Sea:  The Life and Times of a Grand Hotel  published in 2004, Robinson is also the editor and owner of the regional web site, SeacoastNH.com.

This program is offered at no charge.  For more information contact the Library at 603-427-1540 or visit our web site at www.cityofportsmouth.com/library.
